4 Questions to Ask When Buying an Ice Machine

If you are in the market to buy a commercial ice machine for your restaurant or other food service business, there are several things you will want to take into consideration before your purchase. With so many ice machines to choose from, you want to make sure you select the right one for your needs.

Kohn-Megibow Company has put together this list of four questions to consider when buying a commercial ice machine.

1. How Much Ice Do You Need?
Depending on the type of restaurant you have, you may need more or less ice than the average restaurant. We have ice machines that vary in size from 150, 250,  400, 500, 600, 1,000, all the way up to 2,000 pounds per 24 hour period.

Once you’ve done the math on how much ice you’ll need daily, then you can make sure to find an ice machine that will produce that amount.

2. What Type of Ice Do You Prefer?
Ice machines can produce cubes, nuggets, flakes and numerous other styles. Figure out what kind of ice you need or prefer, and that will help you narrow down your ice machine selection.

3. Air Cooled or Remote Condensers?
Ice machines that are located in tight spaces with little breathing room need to run a remote condenser on the rooftop. Ice machines that have ample ventilation don’t need a remote condenser, we call them self-contained or Air Cooled machines.

4. New or Used?
If you’re on the fence with buying an ice machine, think about purchasing a used ice machine instead. KMC has new and used ice machines available. Our used units are inspected and cleaned, so you can get a high-quality ice machine for a fraction of the price it would cost to buy new.

These are just some of the considerations you will want to make when buying a commercial ice machine.
